Under the chairmanship of Bishkek Mayor Emilbek Abdykadyrov, a regular meeting of the special interdepartmental commission on air pollution was held in the metropolitan Municipality.

The meeting was attended by representatives of structural divisions, ministries and departments.

The head of the city presented action plans to address issues affecting air quality in the capital.

It should be noted that medium–term measures are those that must be implemented by 2025, and long–term plans are those that are implemented in the period from 2025 to 2050.

In 2023, it is planned to gasify 5 residential areas and introduce alternative heating sources, including heat pumps, with the transfer of all municipal coal boilers to gas and other alternative heat sources.

The issue of increasing the import of Kazakh high-calorie coal for Bishkek consumers with a restriction on the burning of Kara-Keche coal in Bishkek in the upcoming heating season was also discussed.

In order to reduce the number of private coal-based baths, it is necessary to build 12 municipal baths in residential areas.

There are plans to start construction of a waste recycling plant. It is necessary to purchase 500 units of ecological public transport.

A measure has been proposed to increase the number of public transport on eco-friendly fuel to 1,500 units and create a dedicated lane for public transport and taxi services.

The members of the Commission considered a proposal to check vehicles for compliance with environmental standards, including the need for catalysts.

It is planned to implement an investment project for the purchase of 500 units of single-color electric taxis.

The plans include the implementation of a project to green the city of Bishkek, to increase park areas by 21.6 hectares and the construction of “green corridors” with tree planting.

Development of the Bishkek City Master Plan and making proposals on expanding the territory of the capital at the expense of the Chui region.

The medium-term action plan includes the purchase of 1000 units of ecological public transport until 2025 jointly with the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic. The issue of allocating additional funds for the development of pedestrian and bicycle road infrastructure (development of the coastlines of the Ala-Archa, Alamudun, BCHK rivers) is also being considered.

The issues of taking the railway out of the city, regulating the construction of apartment buildings, maintenance of road transport hubs, expansion and opening of roads in order to reduce congestion on the roads were raised.

In addition, it is proposed to move markets, bus stations and public service facilities located in the central part of Bishkek, that is, in crowded places and transport, to the outskirts of the city. In addition, the restoration of CHP-2 by the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic.
