Bishkek Mayor Aibek Junushaliev reviewed the progress of the reconstruction and modernization project of the city’s wastewater treatment facilities.

During the visit, the mayor was presented with the current stages of construction, shown completed works, and informed about the future plans for upgrading the facility.

The treatment plant is the only station serving Bishkek and nearby settlements. Commissioned in the 1970s, it provides a full wastewater treatment cycle. Over decades of operation, the equipment has become significantly outdated, and major overhauls were not previously conducted.

The project is implemented as a public-private partnership between the Bishkek city administration, the municipal enterprise BishkekVodokanal, and the joint venture SFC-JV, established with participation from the Vietnamese companies SFC Investment Development for Environment Corporation and Phu Dien Joint Stock Company. The total contract value is approximately USD 56 million.

The reconstruction includes installation of energy-efficient equipment, implementation of modern technologies, and full automation of processes, which will improve the quality of wastewater treatment and ensure the long-term stability of the system.

Mayor Junushaliev emphasized the importance of high-quality and timely execution of all project stages and instructed that landscaping and rational use of the treatment plant territory be considered.

Additionally, he visited the BishkekVodokanal vehicle depot and gave directives on improving the enterprise’s grounds.
